BQ76907: Cap connected from VC1 to VSS not VC0

Part Number: BQ76907

Tool/software:

Hi team,

I can see that in all the reference images the capacitor from VC1 is not directly connected to VC0(C12). Its connected directly to VSS  through cap and then another cap from VC0 to VSS. Is there any specific reason?

I am using such a configuration

Is there a problem?

  • Hello Jithu,

We do not recommend doing this. The reason VC1 is directly connected to VSS through a capacitor is for short circuit protection when there is a high voltage on the stack. When a short circuit occurs, the stack is driven down to ground very quickly. That sudden transient couples through all the capacitors from the top VC down to VC0 which can cause VC0 to be pumped below ground for a short period. The VC1 capacitor connected VSS helps avoid this issue since it will be pumped downward some, but still not far enough to be pumped below ground.
