When you click yes and check for updates, are you able to upgrade the device firmware?

Which GUI and guide are you following? It should direct you to use LPP Updater and put the device in boot-loader mode which may require admin rights.

It could be possible that your administrator is blocking the download. Can you try updating on another network? 

Which EVM and GUI are you trying to run? This should be the screen you see after searching for updates while on firmware 3.0:
