[FAQ] BQ25600: What is ship mode and how do I enter and exit it in BQ2560x?

Part Number: BQ25600
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25601,

Tool/software:

The I2C programmable BQ2560x has a mode to minimize quiescent current for the BQ25601/D and BQ25600/C/D from the battery in cases when the system load is not needed to be powered by the battery. A common example involves shipping a product that does not need to power the system and would rather retain as much battery capacity as possible in transport. Doing this will reduce the quiescent current from the battery and allow the battery to hold a higher state of charge.

This mode is called ship mode and can be activated via I2C. The typical current from the battery at this time is 17 uA. When the BATFET_DIS bit is set, the BATFET will turn off according to the timing set in BATFET_DLY bit (whether immediately or 10s delay).

To exit ship mode, attach an adapter, clear BATFET_DIS bit, set REG_RST bit, or hold /QON pin low for between 0.9s or 1.3s. Please note BQ25600C does not have a /QON pin and cannot exit ship mode via this method but can exit ship mode by attaching an adapter, clearing BATFET_DIS bit, or setting REG_RST bit.
