BQ79718B-Q1: Daisy Chain issue with battery cell simulator

Part Number: BQ79718B-Q1

Hi Teams,

Our current configuration is 13 cells with 8 in series. The issue we are encountering is that during experimental validation of the BQ79718-Q1 using a cell simulator, when each cell channel is set to 4.2V via the cell simulator, abnormal Daisy Chain communication occurs. Based on the experimental results, only CMU1 and CMU8 are functioning normally, while CMU2 to CMU7 cannot be read properly. Below is the Daisy Chain circuit for the BQ79718/79600. Please help check it, thanks.

  • Hello,

That is very curious as this indicates no break in communication, with CMU 8 being able to function properly. It does seem as though the isolation you're using, and the total setup is correct so far. Can you elaborate on what you are seeing that shows that CMU 2-7 are not functioning properly? Furthermore, can you read any of the fault registers to see if there is anything occurring that would help us understand this?

This would be done by first reading the FAULT_SUMMARY register, then seeing if any bit was asserted and can be explored further.

    Thank you,

    Pranav Ananthan
