LMR14020-Q1: Cout capacitor applied configuration

Part Number: LMR14020-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MANDO,

Tool/software:

hello? My name is HL mando researcher  Chuljin kim.

In the LMR14020-Q1 documentation in the section 8.2.2.4 (output capacitor selection)

1) as highlighted in the accompanying material
Do you mean I recommend using one capacitor of 47uF?
Or is it okay to use a combination of capacitors with multiple capacities?

2) Any suggestion for the maximum value for Cout?

Do you have any application notes related to it?

Best regards,

  • Hi Chuljin,

    1. it is fine to use a combination of capacitors with multiple capacities, but it has to be ensured that the combination gives required capacitance considering derating/DC bias effect.

    2.  Of course you may increase the output capacitance slightly. but increasing much higher than the recommended value will cause stability issues. Also, it can lead to higher inrush current during soft-start if soft-start time is less. I Will recommend choosing a value in the range of the recommended value.
