TPS2116: confusing logic description in the datasheet

Part Number: TPS2116
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2117, TPS2113A, , TPS2114A, TPS2115A, TPS2112A

Tool/software:

I am trying to figure out the logic from truth table in the datasheet and it seems the table is incomplete and misleading.

For example it is not clear what is the difference between "External Bias ≤ 0.35 V (Manual mode)" and "VIN1 (Priority mode)" when VIN falls under 0.35V, since MODE pin is supposed to be connected to VIN1.

Furthermore, <0.35V Manual mode is described later in the datasheet as "When the PR1 pin is pulled low, the higher voltage supply between VIN1 and VIN2 is passed to the output.", which is in fact "diode mode", but is not named as such anywhere in the documentation.

I looked over all relevant questions on the support forum and answers often contradict each other and the datasheet. For example one answer says that resistor divider is required, while datasheet clearly has "PR1 tied to VIN1" option in the timing diagram.

The truth table in TPS2117 datasheet is different and makes much more sense, and it specifically calls low state of MODE pin a "diode mode". It also does not mention resistor divider, only the voltages on inputs, which also makes more sense.

My questions:

1. Do TPS2116 and TPS2117 have exactly the same logic (similar to TPS2114A/TPS2115A or TPS2112A/TPS2113A pairs)? Can I use truth table from TPS2117 to design TPS2116 circuit?

2. For two identical voltage sources can I connect both MODE and PR1 pins directly to VIN1 and have a simple switchover that prioritizes VIN1 input when it is available, and VIN2 when VIN1 is floating or too low?

Note that I don't care about voltage drop or smooth switchover. All I need is the circuit to be powered from whatever input is available, prioritizing VIN1 when both sources are connected.
