BQ40Z50-R2: Data flash wearout spec

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50

Tool/software:

Hi TI experts

According to the TI spec, the flash programming write cycle limit is 20,000 cycles. Does this mean that each flash register can be written at least 20,000 times?

Thanks

Steven

  • Hi, Steven,

Yes, the battery goes to qualification cycles of different kind of test at different stress conditions. For flash, we do X amount of times of flash cycles in the datasheet. This helps us guarantee the device will work over a long period of time.

The BQ40z50 is a gauge with flash, and to "remember" the SoC of the battery, the gauge needs to write on the flash is most recent state (voltage, current, temperature, cycles, etc...).
