BQ24610: PLEASE HELP ME TO OUT THIS

Part Number: BQ24610

Tool/software:

Hello Texas Instruments Support Team,

I have designed a UPS circuit using the BQ24610 IC. The input supply is 19V / 4.7A.

  • At the battery terminal (without battery connected), I measure around 12V, which seems correct.

  • However, when I connect the battery, the voltage at the battery terminal drops to about 0.8V, and the battery does not charge.

  • The system output remains the same as the input (19V).

Could you please guide me on what might be causing this issue and how to resolve it?

Thank you for your support.

  • Hi Kamlesh,

Thanks for posting. It was a US holiday on Monday. A team member will look into this and get back to you tomorrow.

When the battery terminal drops to 0.8V, what is the output of STAT1 and STAT2? Can you please send scope capture?

  • Hello TI Support Team,

Earlier, I resolved the 0.8 V issue in my BQ24610 charging circuit. At first, I thought this was a problem, but later I realized that the ~0.8 V behavior was only happening when I removed the battery and measured the terminal. It seems this is a normal feature (no battery present = no terminal voltage). After that, I connected a 3-cell Li-ion battery pack (≈10.2 V). However, the battery is not charging properly.

    • At ~10.2 V, the battery was not charging at all.

    • To check behavior, I intentionally discharged the battery to ~9.82 V.

    • After connecting to the charger, the voltage increased slightly to ~9.88 V.

    • But then it got stuck at 9.88 V for a long time and did not continue charging further.

    • I also measured the VFB pin voltage: it was around 1.630 V at the moment when charging stopped at 9.88 V.

Could you please help me identify why the battery is not charging beyond this point? Any guidance on possible causes (sense resistor, VFB settings, charge enable conditions, or protection triggers) would be very helpful.

  • Hello Kamesh,

what is the output of STAT1 and STAT2? Can you please send scope capture?

    Best Regards,

    Christian
