TPS61085: TPS61085DGKR Boost Converter Output Issue

Part Number: TPS61085
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61087

Tool/software:

Hello TI Team,

We are using the TPS61085DGKR boost converter in our design to generate 12V from a 6V input. During board bring-up, we intended to evaluate its line and load regulation.

However, we observed that the output does not maintain 12V when the load current increases beyond the following points:

  • Load-0.86A at 6V input

  • Load-0.66A at 5V input

  • Load-0.45A at 4V input

If we go beyond these load conditions, the output voltage drops significantly.

For your reference, please find the test results and schematic attached below. Kindly help us analyze this behavior and suggest possible causes or solutions.

  • Hi,

TPS61085 has peak switching current limit at 2.6A(typical). Considering inductor current ripple, the average current limit is 2.3A, which is correspond to your test result.

We recommend to use higher rating device TPS61087. Thanks.
