BQ27505-J2: Does BQ27500-V130 support LFP batteries?

Part Number: BQ27505-J2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27500-V130, , BQ27500

Tool/software:

Please note that I am asking about BQ27500-V130, not BQ27505-J2.  For whatever reason, the BQ27500-V130 seems to no longer exist on the TI website and is not a valid part number when creating this thread.  However, I am supporting existing hardware with the BQ27500-V130 built in.

Does BQ27500-V130 support LFP batteries?  There is nothing in the datasheet explicitly indicating multi-chemistry support, but all of the charging parameters are configurable so it would seem like it could be made to work.  Are there any pitfalls to using this device with LFP batteries?

  • The bq27500 doesn't have dedicated LFP support. It can work ok if you charge the cell to very low DOD and discharge it to high DOD (past the voltage drop off when relaxed). If you don't then the gauge will have troubles measuring accurate Qmax because it may not be able to resolve DOD from OCV reading accurately for Qmax updates, which will eventually cause issues with accuracy.
