TPS25961: Undefined Device ON Resistance

Tool/software:

Our customer is considering to use TPS25961.

They would like to use this when overcurrent thresholds is 120mA.

But Device ON Resistance is undefined in this range.

Could you please answer the following questions in detail.


1. Why can't the resistance value be set within this range ?

2. How will the IC behave in this state ?

3. Is there any other way to limit the short-circuit protection current to 120mA ?

4.Should they consider to use TPS2662x when overcurrent thresholds is small ?

    The Ron is not undefined. They will have to use ILIM OPEN which gives OCP threshold of 116mA (typical) and Ron is defined for this value.

    During this undefined state, we expect the Ron to be very high. This is explained in the Note (#2) in above image you shared.

    ILIM pin sets the Overcurrent protection threshold. The SCP is different from this and is set to 8.25A in this device.

    If they are fine with SOT package, then I would recommend TPS2596 which is similar to this device. 

    Instead of TPS2662, I would recommend TPS1641.
