TPS48111Q1EVM: How to differentiate Overcurrent and Short Circuit faults

Hi,

Could you help me understand how one can differentiate overcurrent and short circuits faults in TPS48111. From the datasheet I understand that the FLT_I pin goes high for both overcurrent fault and short circuit faults. So, is there a way the MCU can differentiate these two faults effectively.

Hi Michelle,

The timing characteristics will be different. For example, short circuit protection has a fixed time for when the gate goes low. Overcurrent protection is based on the configured tOC.
