BQ25185: BQ25185: STAT1 and STAT2 as LED without VIN present?

Part Number: BQ25185

Tool/software:

Dear TI, forum readers,

I want to connect LEDs to STAT1 and STAT2 pins of the BQ25185.

There is a table in the datasheet of the BQ25185 (page 18/19): section 8.3.10 Status Pins describing the behaviour of the status pins.

However, when there is no VIN present, I would expect the STAT1 and STAT2 pins to be off/low, otherwise they would drain the battery, right?

Is this the behaviour of the BQ25185? This is not clear from the BQ25185 datasheet.

Any other things I need to keep in mind when connecting STAT1 and STAT2 to LEDs?

Regards

Thomas.

  • Hi Thomas,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Yes, the STAT1 and STAT2 pins are disabled when no VIN present.

The main consideration when connecting STAT1 and STAT2 to LEDs is to ensure that the current-limiting resistors are chosen such that the maximum sink current of these pins is not exceeded. STAT1 and STAT2 can each sink an absolute maximum of 20mA, as shown in Table 7.1 of the BQ25185 datasheet.

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

    Best regards,

    Alec

  • Dear Alec,

Thank you very much for your quick and clear reply. Much appreciated. Hope you have a nice day.

    Regards,
