UCC27211A-Q1: Peak current of the bootstrap diode

Part Number: UCC27211A-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello,

My customer is concerned about the peak current of the bootstrap diode and have a couple of questions related to the thread shown below.

UCC27211A-Q1: UCC27211AQDDARQ1 - Power management forum - Power management - TI E2E support forums

Questions

1. The E2E shows "the peak current should not damage the diode at startup", but do you think it shouldn't do even if the peak current might be over 100A when Rboot=0Ohm and the ESR=0.5mOhm?

2. Would you please tell me the reason why you don't specify the peak current?  I think all the customers should need the information.  Actually, the discrete diode should specify that in its datasheet.

Best regards,

Yoshikazu Kawasaki.

  • Hello,

    1. The peak startup current depends on VDD, bootstrap capacitor size, and duration. UCC27211A-Q1 will survive without damage in normal operation with a properly sized bootstrap capacitor. the diode can survive 10's of amps of forward current at startup.

    2. Currently this information is NDA only. The multiple application variables described above that can affect the forward current makes it difficult to define a typical datasheet spec.

    Thank you,

    Walter
