BQ40Z50: FCC and SOC Jump during the relax period

Part Number: BQ40Z50
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: GPCCHEM

Tool/software:

Hi Ti:

During our use of the bq40z50, we encountered a problem: After the battery was left idle for a long time (one month), the FCC and RSOC would jump, what is the reason for this?

Regarding the register configuration, our IT Gauging Configuration is 103e, as shown in the figure.

  • Hello,

This question has been assigned and will be reviewed when possible.

    Thank you,

  • Hi Alan;

Is there any feedback on this issue?

  • Hello ??,

    Please check the following:

By importance, we want to check the following parameters one by one:

    1. 1.Calibration of IVT
      1. 1.Calibration of the current readings
      2. 2.Calibration of the voltage readings (BAT, VC1, PACK)
      3. 3.Calibration of the temperature sensor
    2. 2.CHEMID (Catalogue/ Custom)
      1. 1.Used Tool?
      2. 2.Check initial Ra table values
    3. 3.Learning Cycle
    4. 4.Load Mode
    5. 5.Qmax Updates
      1. 1.Good OCV
      2. 2.Where is the jump?
      3. 3.What term voltage?
    6. 6.Ra Tables Updates
      1. 1.Are updates within a few 10 of mΩ?

  • Hi Miguel,

Please refer to the following reply:

    1. 1.Calibration of IVT
      1. 1.Calibration of the current readings --It has been calibrated.
      2. 2.Calibration of the voltage readings (BAT, VC1, PACK)--It has been calibrated.
      3. 3.Calibration of the temperature sensor--It has been calibrated.
    2. 2.CHEMID (Catalogue/ Custom)
      1. 1.Used Tool?--Yes,we use the GPCCHEM tool from Ti.
      2. 2.Check initial Ra table values--refer to the "before" gg.csv file
    3. 3.Learning Cycle--3 cycle.
    4. 4Load Mode--0
    5. 5.Qmax Updates
      1. 1.Good OCV--
      2. 2.Where is the jump?--When charging 10A at a temperature of 10°C, the state of charge (SOC) jumps from 0% to 39%;when the temperature drops to -18℃, discharge occurs in 6A mode, and the SOC drops from 38% to 0%.
      3. 3.What term voltage?--11000mV
    6. 6.Ra Tables Updates
      1. 1.Are updates within a few 10 of mΩ?6165.before.gg.csv
  • 5.Qmax Updates

    1. 1.Good OCV--
    2. 2.Where is the jump?--When charging 10A at a temperature of 10°C, the state of charge (SOC) jumps from 0% to 39%;when the temperature drops to -18℃, discharge occurs in 6A mode, and the SOC drops from 38% to 0%.

This sounds like temperature issue. Please read the file on how to optimize your application for temperature. In short, the gauge can program a couple coeficients which are used at room temp, cold temp, and hot temp (if remember correctly).
