The typeC connector in altmode there is no dedicated pin for HPD during DP alt mode.
They are using TUSB1046A cross point switch, which expects HPDin, block diagram is shoiwng HPDin connected from PD controller
If the PD controller doesn't have option of generating HPD signal, can TUSB1046A generate HPD signal when it snoops on SBU1/2 signals?
In their application, they are planning to use I2C communication, so I2C_EN=1,

The TUSB1046A cannot generate HPDIN signals.

If you are using I2C mode you can use register 0x0A to set HPDIN high internally without the need of an external HPDIN signal. However, this signal is only internal to this part. It cannot be sent to the SoC with the DisplayPort PHY.
