BQ34210-Q1: Design issues about

Part Number: BQ34210-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Tool/software:

Hi team,

Regarding the BQ34210-Q1, we have some design questions:

1. As shown in the figure below, is it recommended to place the BQ34210-Q1's GND pin at terminal A or terminal B? If it is placed at terminal B, is there a possibility that a negative voltage will be generated on the SRN pin during system discharge, potentially damaging the device?

2. Regarding the sense resistor, the datasheet states that it supports values from 5mΩ to 20Ω. How does the IC identify the external sense resistor size? Are there any registers for writing data related to the sense resistor size?

Please answer these questions. Thank you.

BR,

Ethan

  • Hello,

This question this question has been assigned and will be reviewed when possible, in the meantime please attach your .gg file.

  • Please use the ground connection on B as in the schematics. This will not damage the gauge as long as it's within abs.max.

You can choose the sense resistor so that your maximum current results in a voltage drop over the sense resistor which is still within the limits for the coulomb counter ADC (and also won't violate abs. max. ratings).

The FW uses a floating point variable, CC Gain, to convert the result of the coulomb counter ADC into units of mA (and mAh). So this CC Gain will have to be calculated (e.g. using bqStudio and the Calibration option).
