BQ25186: Reverse Battery Protection needed?

Hi,

I'm planning a small design to buffer a solar cell with a single 18650 battery.

Do I need to integrate a reverse battery protection or does the IC handle this through it's fault detection routines already?

Hi David,

Thanks for reaching out.

The BQ25186 does not have integrated reverse polarity protection on the BAT pin.

I recommend checking out this Application Report for external circuit solutions to address this concern: Reverse Current/Battery Protection Circuits

Otherwise, using a keyed battery connector could be a good option to prevent reverse polarity connections.
