Hi Dinesh,
Yes. If its a soft short and V(BAT) > VSHORT, cycle by cycle current limit turns off the internal power FET if the inductor current exceeds the current. If V(BAT) pin falls below VSHORT, the output current is clamped to ISHORT.

After initial power up, if the battery voltage drops below VSHORT threshold, the charger thinks the battery is shorted. To prevent damage to itself, the charger limits the charge current to ISHORT, regardless of the charge current setting.
