Tool/software:
Hello TI Team,
We are using the BQ40Z80RSMR in our application and interfacing it with the iWave (SMARC IMX8QMAEC) S5 and S7 I2C lines. We have added 33 Ω, 1/16 W series termination resistors on these I2C lines near the iWave SOM, and 100 Ω, 1/10 W resistors on the BQ side.
We observed that these I2C series termination resistors are getting blown. Initially, we assumed this might be due to an ESD event, so we added TVS diodes in our design. However, we are still facing the same issue—the series resistors continue to blow even with ESD protection.
We are also communicating with the iWave team to check if the issue could be on the SOM side. Could you please help us investigate the BQ40Z80 side?
One point to note is that although we are using multiple I2C lines from the iWave SOM for other interfaces, this issue occurs only when interfacing with the BQ40Z80 IC.
For the next revision, we are considering replacing the 33 Ω 1/16 W resistors with 1/4 W parts.
Could you please share your thoughts on the possible cause of these series termination resistors blowing?
Due to the NDA, we cannot share the schematic publicly. Could you please provide me with your email ID so that I can share the schematic directly via email?
This issue is critical, and we would greatly appreciate your support in resolving it.
Thanks,
Sonali
