TPS25982: Is there a possibility of damage? (VI<VOUT)

Part Number: TPS25982
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25983

Tool/software:

Dear Specialists,

My customer is evaluating TPS259827 and has questions.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

---

After the input power is turned off, the TPS259827's output voltage is approximately 3.5V and the input voltage is approximately 2.6V, resulting in a 0.8V voltage difference.

A current of 120mA flows from Vout to Vin.

Since a Peltier element is connected to the load, it is likely that a voltage is generated when the power is off, causing current to flow from Vout to Vin.

(1) At this time, the TPS259827's "absolute maximum Vout rating: Vin + 0.3V" is exceeded, is there a possibllity of  (TPS259827) fail?

(2) Should we use the "TPS25983" which has a backflow prevention function as a countermeasure to prevent backflow from the output?

Or is there a risk that the voltage will rise further and damage the device because there is no reverse current path?

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hi Shinichi

    Thankyou for the patience

The body diode cannot handle continuous current .

Also can you please update me on what exactly the customer is trying to do here  by sharing some waveforms and objective of his experiment

    Best Regards,

    Sailendra
