    Hi Dice-K

    This attached circuit is okay, should work for testing.  

    The NiMH charge profile does not have a battery short circuit feature similar to Li-Ion where current is reduced at low cell voltage.

    With the resistor attached at output BQ25171 will source 125mA and develop 1.5V across the 12 ohm resistor.
