TPS65951 replacing the TPS65930

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65930, DM3730, TPS65950, TPS65951, TPS65921

Currently we’re using TI’s DM3730CBP100 and the TPS65930A2ZCH, along with Micron’s MT29C4G48MAZAPAKQ-5 IT PoP memory.  The CBP package of the DM3730 is a 0.4mm pitch part which causes the board design to be rather complex and expensive.  Also, the TPS65930 doesn’t have enough output current to support the DM3730CBP100 at 1GHz so here’s what we’re thinking about doing:

 Change to TPS65951A1ZGU

  • This looks like a relatively new power chip from TI that has some attractive features over the TPS65930, specifically support for 1GHz operation of the DM3730, additional LDO outputs, and a friendlier ULPI interface.  Documentation for this part is pretty light right now, so getting more information about this part would be helpful.  What’s the availability, lifetime, software compatibility, etc…  Is there a PCB layout recommendation for this part?

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers
