LM117QML-SP: LM117QML-SP

Part Number: LM117QML-SP

Tool/software:

Hi,

In the absolute maximum ratings section, app note (2) stated that the power dissipation is internally limited, but the specifications are applicable for power dissipations of 2W for the TO-39 and CFP packages. Is this including the 50% derating or do I need to account for derating on top of the 2W.

For additional evaluation, I am using CFP package for thermal simulation inside a housing. Below is the thermal simulation result. With 3W of power dissipation, the simulation is only predicting a thermal rise of 21C. I was wondering if you can provide additional insight on simulation setup so we can get a more accurate result.

Thank you,

Tai Truong

  • Hi Tai,

If the derating is referring to NASA-INST-002 derating analysis, the -SP and -SEP parts are to MIL-Spec, space rated, and go through extensive testing such as burn-in and life testing, our customers tend to forgo derating and use our -SP and -SEP parts according to the datasheet specs. With that said, it does not include the 50% derating, but our customers typically don't derate our -SP and -SEP unless otherwise specified by the datasheet.

We have thermal information provided in our datasheets and also other resources such as this app note to assist in thermal simulations. We can help find other data specs to aid customer efforts regarding thermal metrics.

    Thanks,
    Elizabeth
