TPS65987D: TPS65987D Alternate Mode: Screen not powering on when in source mode, however works with a DP to HDMI dongle

Part Number: TPS65987D

Tool/software:

Hi there,

I have a question in relation to TUSB546 mux and TPS65987D when trying to power the monitor via Type-C (source) on PPHV2.
Currently, I have tested my application with many off-the-shelf USB-C to HDMI dongles and the video output works fine.

However, I recently bought an external monitor that requires 5V source (i.e to power the monitor via the USB-C port) but the screen remains black despite link training correctly as per the below output:

[ 11.112536] dw-dp fde50000.dp: full-training link: 4 lanes at 5400 MHz
[ 11.116895] dw-dp fde50000.dp: clock recovery succeeded
[ 11.118922] dw-dp fde50000.dp: channel equalization succeeded

Could you please help me understand:

  1. Why the direct connection to the monitor might not be working.

  2. What settings I need to configure to enable proper operation in the TPS65987D configuration GUI tool to power an external monitor correctly.
Anything look off from my project file that would need changing?

I’ve attached my .pjt configuration file and the schematics for your reference.

I have also confirmed the monitor is link training fine, and sees the monitor via EDID.

Thanks for your support,
Benjamin
