BQ25308EVM: BQ25308 max charging current

Tool/software:

Hi,

I have a BQ25308 evaluation board. I'm trying to charge at the stated maximumum 3A charge current for the BQ25308, but the maximum seems to be a little under 2A.

If I connect JP9 it puts a 40.2k resistor from ICHG to ground and as expected the battery charges at 1A

If I connect JP10 it puts a 20k resistor from ICHG to ground and as expected the battery charges at close to 2A

However, if I put links in both JP9 and JP10 this should create about 13.4k to ground, which should make the chip charge at 3A, but the charge current is still a little under 2A.

I'm using a bench power supply to drive the board, I have current limit set to 3.5A and I have tried voltages from 5V to 12V. I've tried a few differnt LiPo batteries making sure they are mostly discharged before taking measurements.

Please can someone tell me if this chip should be able to charge at 3A as the data sheet specifies?

Thanks,

Julian
