TPS25980: Question about reverse polarity protection on TPS259802ONRGER and TPS16630RGER

Part Number: TPS25980

Tool/software:

Hello TI team,

I am evaluating the use of two eFuse devices:

  • TPS259802ONRGER

  • TPS16630RGER

My application requires not only protection for overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent, but also reverse polarity protection (i.e., when the input supply is accidentally connected backwards: VIN+ to GND and VIN– to VIN pin).

From reading the datasheets, I found descriptions about:

  • Overvoltage/undervoltage thresholds

  • Current limit and fault behavior

  • Reverse current flow (OUT → IN) in some application notes

However, it is not clear to me if either of these devices internally supports reverse polarity protection on the input supply (blocking negative voltage applied to VIN).

Point right Could you please clarify:

  1. Do TPS259802ONRGER and TPS16630RGER have built-in reverse polarity protection on their input pins?

  2. If not, what is TI’s recommended external circuit for reverse polarity protection in combination with these eFuse devices? (e.g., Schottky diode, back-to-back MOSFET, ideal diode controller, etc.)

Thank you for your support!
