UCC21550: UCC215xx significant differences?

Part Number: UCC21550
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC21540, , UCC21551, UCC21520

Tool/software:

Hello,

Before I go blind reading the data sheets, other than the 5.0kV vs 5.7kV isolation voltage, are the any significant differences between the UCC21550, UCC21551, and UCC21540?

Application is a 3-phase SR motor drive using IGBT half bridges.

Any reason whey they can't be used interchangeably?

TIA!

  • Hi Andrew,

UCC21550 and UCC21551 are almost identical, with the only difference being the ENABLE vs DISABLE pin functionality. On UCC21550 the pin is DISABLE, and on UCC21551 the pin is ENABLE. On both of these parts, if the EN/DIS pin is left floating, the driver is disabled by default for safety reasons.

UCC21540 has a higher VCCI input supply range than the other two. UCC21540 has a VCCI range of 3-18V, whereas UCC21550/1 has a VCCI range of 3-5.5V. UCC21540 also has a different Deadtime programming equation ( tDT (ns) = 10 x RDT (kΩ) ) compared to UCC21550/1 ( tDT (ns) = 8.6 x RDT (kΩ) + 13 ). UCC21540 features a DISABLE pin, and if left floating, the driver is enabled by default.

My recommendation is to look into the UCC21550/1 product family first, since it is our latest-generation device, but if any specs do not work with your system, the UCC21520/30/40 product family is a great option as well.

    Best regards,

    Will
