UCC28951: Regarding calucuration tool(SLUC222) estimated component error value

Part Number: UCC28951

Tool/software:

Hi team,

Our customer would like to know the allowable tolerance for component values calculated using the calculation tool (SLUC222). In this tool, resistors are indicated as “E48”; however, my understanding is that this refers to selecting a value close to the calculated one, rather than specifying accuracy.

Therefore, if there are any accuracy requirements for the calculated values when using this tool, could you please let me know?

Additionally, could you share your opinion on which components, if they have large tolerances, might significantly affect the operation of this device?

In my understanding, resistors which used to setting device function(e.g., RDELAB, RT, etc. ) and component which regard to device regulation(e.g., connected to COMP pin cpmponent) is able to affect device operation.

Please your opinion if there is factors other than those listed above or not.

Best regards,

teritama

  • Hello Teritama,

Typically as long as you use the closest value possible to the calculated value, the converter will work ok. Yes, there will be slight variations but that is the part of the challenge with real-world applications.

For example, you may have calculated R and C values that give you a 200kHz switching frequency. However, based on available components, you may only be able to get something like 202kHz. For practical purposes, this is good enough since you are within a 5% margin. There will always be a margin of error that must be accounted for in the practical design.
