TPS65381A-Q1: When to add additional surge stopper before TPS65381A?

Hello experts,

We are using the TPS65381A in an automotive safety application (powering the TMS570LC4357).  We are trying to understand if or when an additional surge stopper IC may be required in front of the TPS65381A.  This TI AppNote shows the TPS attached to battery after π-Filter and Reverse Voltage protection.  No additional surge stopper IC is included.  Is a TVS diode plus π-Filter and Reverse Voltage protection sufficient to deal with load dumps in modern vehicles, or is a surge stopper IC commonly combined with the TPS65381A?  Appreciate you sharing your experience here.
