UCC28180: PFC fail after fast restart of power supply

Part Number: UCC28180

Tool/software:

Hello, reaching out for help regarding PFC design.

We are using UCC28180 for a new design, supplying EC blower supplied with 110V/16A. The PFC circuit works as it should, whole range from 100W to 1800W. During design have encountered fail when restarting, so we have implemented the turn off through switching off VCC when power supply cuts off. This is done by on-board microprocessor, when power supply drops below 80V AC. The shutdown over Vcc is done in 100ms after power supply is cut off.  It appeared to be working until power cut at our test chamber »blinked« and all five blower controllers failed simultaneously. The test was running successfully for more than 4months, cycling the operation ON/OFF every 10min. Under »blinked« I mean that the event lasted less than half a second. We have tested the ON/OFF restarts in our lab, but can't seem to cause the fail, but obviously a shorter »blink« of power supply causes the PFC to fail.

What fails is Mosfet. In all 5 PFC circuits. I can send you schematics for a checkup.

BTW. The design is based on a successful PFC design of 110V/10A with no VCC power supply cut off function.

Please respond.

  • Hello Igor,

Can you please share the schematics and any waveforms that you have captured? Also, can you please share the successful PFC design that this is based off of and what the differences between the successful PFC design and your design is?
