Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ79616

Dear Experts,
In the schematic of BQ79616 evaluation board, it's using RC to protect ESD and hot-plug from VC pins.
I am trying to increase the performance of ESD, such as to add bi-directional TVS before RC like below,

my questions are,
1) from TI experience, is it nessary to add TVS for ESD performance? or RC is good enough?
2) bi-directional TVS or one-diretional TVS, which one is better for this case?
since BQ79616 VC to AVSS should be more than -0.3V, one-direction TVS here can protect negative voltage on VCs from mis-connections. right?

3) If follow the reference design, only RC filter. but under a wrong connection, such as reverse connection. VC pins may get negative voltages. BQ can survive or will be damaged by negative voltages?
Thank you very much.
