LM5101: Full H-Bridge circuit using LM5101A does not work

Part Number: LM5101

Tool/software:

I am trying to simulate a full H-bridge driver driving a capacitive load. It is expected to develop a 40V peak-peak square wave across the load capacitor. However, it does not work (gives 0 output) even though the half-bridge version of the circuit seems to be working. The voltage at HO outputs is a DC of about 17V. The schematic and simulation is attached. The VDD voltage is 9V and the input voltages applied at HI and LI input are 3.3V complementary clock. The high-voltage supply is 20V. The clock frequency applied the input is 2.5 MHz. Requesting help.

  • Hi Subhajit,

It appears something is happening with the inputs, as the outputs directly from the driver do not appear right. I have the circuit working as described in PSpice (The TINA model and PSpice model should be the same). Would you be able to send your TINA files?

    Best,

    Amy

  • Hi Amy,

The LM5101A is part of the TINA library. I just added the sources & the supplies as shown in the figure.

How do I simulate in PSPICE with your PSPICE model ? Do I have to download PSPICE ? Pls. send me the path to the installation

as well as the PSPICE test-bench.

    Thanks a lot,

    Subhajit Sen

  • Hi Subhajit,

You can download PSpice for TI here: PSpice® for TI design and simulation tool

Models for our components are already loaded into the PSpice for TI library, simplifying the process. You can right click on the component after placing and click "Open Model Test Circuit" to view the test bench for the LM5101A.

Would you be able to send plots of your inputs? The signals directly from the driver (VHOx, VLOx) look very strange. It would be very helpful if you included the inputs in your plots so I can check the logic of this circuit.

    Best,

    Amy
