TPS1H200A-Q1: How to avoid TPS1H200A Open Load diagnostic function for light load conditions

Part Number: TPS1H200A-Q1

I need to enable diagnostics on TPS1H200A using DIAG_EN=High in order to detect a short condition (overcurrent)  on the load. The load can vary from 1mA to 1A and the overcurrent protection is working as expected by setting the FAULT pin to Low.

However I also need to use the switch in light load conditions (i.e. from 1mA to 20mA) and for this range the FAULT pin is asserted to Low (because a Open Load condition is detected). In my application this is undesirable behaviour and I need to avoid this.

Is there any way to fix this issue?

  • Hi Gaston,

For the off-state, an external pullup is required for open-load detection so if you did not want this feature, do not implement the pull-up resistor. However, in the on-state, there is no way to turn off open-load detection without disabling diagnostics. The device is detecting an open load because the load current is very low which overlaps with the on-state open-load current threshold.

There are other available devices that will not report an open-load in the on-state if you would be interested in a replacement option.

    Thanks,
