TIDA-010276: Is TIDA-010276 is capable of dealing 48V/30A peak current

Part Number: TIDA-010276
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7B81, LM317HV, LMR38010

Hi,

I am designing a BLDC motor controller based on the TIDA-010276 reference design. Although the design is specified for 36 V operation, Table 1.1 in the user guide indicates that it can operate up to 48 V.

However, I noticed that the design uses the TPS7B81 LDO, which has a maximum input voltage rating of 40 V. Would this regulator still be suitable for 48 V operation, or should it be replaced with a higher-voltage device such as the LM317HV, which supports up to 48 V input?

My second question concerns the microcontroller:
Can the C2000 MCU in this design be replaced with an STM32 series MCU for motor control applications? If so, is there any reference design or application note available that demonstrates using the LMG3100 GaN driver with an STM32 controller?

Lastly, could you please suggest any other GaN FET–based BLDC motor controller reference designs suitable for 48 V / 30 A operation?

Thank you in advance for your guidance.

Best regards,

Ibny Iamail

  • Hi Ibny ,

TIDA 010276 can support 48V/30V application. The input of TPS7B81 is 5V from LMR38010(DC/DC). It's not connected to DC bus directly.

We have connectors on board to use C2000 launch pad. It can be replaced by other MCUs but we don't have reference.
