UCD9248: Trying to find newest version of programming gui

Part Number: UCD9248

We have been using the UCD9248 part for 10 years now and we have a pc set up with fuion pwer designer version 2.11. The pc that was running this finally crashed. We need to set this up again to program boards in manufacturing. What is the latest versoin of the tool I can get for this part? I have 3 xml files from the old softeware and it would be nice if I could use a program to import those files and program the boards.

I did find a manufacturing tool but it had a very old date as with all the other tools I found and loading them on windows I do not get things to work all the time.

First need help getting latest gui then need help getting part programmed.

  • Hi Jason,

For sure, the latest version of Fusion Power Designer can be downloaded here: https://www.ti.com/tool/FUSION_DIGITAL_POWER_DESIGNER#downloads

You should be able to import the .xml project files using the new Fusion version to your controller.

    Kind regards,
    Nick Z

  • thanks for info I downlaoded the software and it is dated 2023. I then tried to open the fusion app and it can see the 3 devices I have but it gives a error message when I try to import the first device here are some images showing my steps and what I see.

I can see the 3 devices I have

I then click on the config supplies and done for this message

    I then see this screen

so I clicked on the "click device config" button and then pointed it to the xml file we used in the previous version for the device on address 52d by using the import to device

    I selected the xml file

I then pointed it to the xml file we used in the old version 2.10 I think it was

    I then checked all fields

When I click on next I get this error

I can't find that error message with a search so not sure what I need to do to fix this issue? Will I need to follow this same process for each device?

  • also I did see a manufacturing tool app not sure why we did not use this before but I think this is what I need since this set up is for manufacturing to program the boards once they are built. I tried to use it but when I click on load script I see this error

Not sure of the easiest path but if I could take the 3 xml files I have for each device and load those into the manufacturing app I think that is a better path or if I can get instructions on how to convert the old xml files and make them work for this manufacturing tool that would be preferred I think fusion designer is a little more complicated than the manufacturing guys need

  • Hi Jason,

I don't have much knowledge of the manufacturing app, let me reach out to some of my team internally and see who oversees it. However I can definitely help you troubleshoot Fusion.

Thanks for sharing all these screenshots, it definitely looks like our Fusion GUI is hitting a bug during the import. Let's attempt a couple things so we can try pinpointing which function is throwing that error:

    • Could you attempt importing one configuration file at a time?
    • When importing a configuration file, perhaps only try importing the NVM data, and if that works start adding actions to the import process until we run into the error again.

    Kind regards,
    Nick Z

  • Just selecting Import write device gave me the same error message.

I clicked on Import rail names and then got this message

then went back to previous as I'm not sure if that will mess up anything

I also tried Import design parameters and got this message

again after this I clicked prev then tried import other device centric preferences and go this

so it looks like the only one that cause the error is Import Write device configuration.

What should I try next I canceled out of the import as I do not want to take a chance of putting the wrong config into the device

  • Hi Jason,

We're going to be discussing this internally with the on our next steps, please give us until Tuesday for an update.

    Kind regards,
    Nick Z

  • Following up to see if any progress has been made on my issue? I'm open to try any steps to see if I can get my units programmed and working

  • Hi Jason,

Apologies for the delay and thanks for your patience. I got some time with our SME that owns development of Fusion and we discussed some things to try:

    1. Before importing further, please export the current configuration of your UCD devices using File-->Export and exporting the project file .xml

Keep these handy in case of a bad import ever happens on your UCD9248.

    2. Just to confirm, using only "Import Write Device Configuration"  caused the same error you shared last week?
    3. Please send us all your exports of the UCD9248 configurations, as well as the intended configurations you are trying to load on
    4. Just to make sure we're all working on the same version of the software, I'll be sending an installer of the latest Fusion GUI branch to your email. Please download and install it, and then reattempt the import. Please let us know if the same issue occurs as well as it's help us diagnose the issue.

    Kind regards,
    Nick Z

  • I did not receive any emails from you having the latest code but I did download from the link you send earlier here is the version I'm using

Right now I have newly made boards with brand new parts on them and since I'm unable to load my xml file not sure what you can get from my export but here is a export from the device at address 52 I can send the other 2 if needed but I think the values are loaded with the default config that happened when the app first started and told me it needed to configure them to continue

    UCD9248 5.8.0.11400 Addressdump after erase 52 Project File.xml

here are the 3 project files from the old version that work for 6 years right before the laptop crashed.

FW, PSU Controller 53 FPGA 1.0.xml

FW, PSU Controller 52 FPGA 1.0.xml

FW, PSU Controller 54 FPGA 1.0 .xml

yes I only get the error if I have the Import write device configuration checked if I uncheck this box it at least only gives me warnings and no errors. But I did not do the full import so not sure if it will work.

  • Hi Jason,

Thanks for confirming the version that you have. Unfortunately it seems like my message was potentially caught by your firewall or IT team since I included a .zip folder for the installer.

I'll be OOO for until Tuesday, so I'm looping one of our Fusion developers, Anne, to cover while I'm out.

    Kind regards,
    Nick Z
