TPS22953: TPS22953 maximum current

Hello,

I plan to use a TPS22953 as a power switch to supply a device with a maximum current of 3A.

The TPS22953 is powered with a current-mode controlled DC/DC power supply. The current limit of the power supply is 5.8A typ, 7.25A max.

How will the TPS22953 behave in the event of overcurrent (> 5 A) or a short circuit in the device?

Hello,

TPS22953 doesn't have protection against current limiting or short circuit.

It's simple load switch.

If you want current limiting or short circuit protection, check out eFuse solutions.

Hello,

I don't need a current limiting protection. I just want to know how the TPS22953 will behave in the event of an overcurrent .Will it be destroyed, or will the thermal protection prevent this?

Hi Sylvain,

Understood your question.

TPS22953 has TSD. TSD occurs when power dissipation is high which mostly occurs during start-up.

In case of over current (assume 8A), power dissipation would not be much to trigger TSD.

persistent current more than the rated current can damage the internal FET and bond wire.
