bq24050 TS Testing

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24050

Hi all,

We'd like to try and find a way to test the TS temp reporting function.  We can provide a situation where the bq24050 is charging a battery but just emulating a thermistor impedence on this pin with a resistor or pot does not seem to do the trick in faking different temps.  Is there a way we can do this or is there a recommended way to mimic a thermistor on the TS pin?

Thanks.

Al

  • Figure 24 gives battery temperature bias and thresholds. And the corresponding voltage for each level is provided in the electrical characteristic table on page 6 in the DS.

The Temperature Sensing is implemented using an internal 50μA current source to bias the thermistor. Having a resistor from the TS pin to VSS should be able to provide you with the following voltage levels:

    •  VTS-0C= 1230mV
    • VTS-10C= 790mV
    • VTS-45C= 278mV
    • VTS-60C= 178mV

These 4 thresholds, 60°C , 45°C, 10°C, and 0°C. Normal operation occurs between 10°C and 45°C. If between 0°C and 10°C the charge current level is cut in half and if between 45°C and 60°C the regulation voltage is reduced to 4.1Vmax. Below 0C and above 60 the charge is disabled

Can you please do the test with the resistor and measure the voltage at TS pin and see if you can get the corresponding operation for each level

  • I don’t know much about the testing procedure and the software. But having them tested without the software and match the data sheet spec should be a good evidence that root cause of the error is not on the charger.
