TPS6286A06: Inductor selection

Part Number: TPS6286A06

Hi expert,

Happe new year and hope you are doing well!

Is the 0.47uH inductor only option in TPS6286A06 design? Customer wants to know if they can use 0.1uH inductor in TPS6286A06 schematic? Below is the 0.1uH inductor specs. Thanks a lot.

Best Regards,

Ryker

  • Hi Ryker,

Thank you for using the e2e forum.

The recommended inductor in the D/S for the device TPS6286A06 is 470nH.

A few questions below for better understanding.

    1. Could you please let me know the end equipment and its application?

    2. Could you please provide the schematic?

    3. Could you also let me know why the customer prefers to use a 0.1uH inductor ? is it due to its size or any other specific reason?

    Best Regards,

    Ashika

  • Hi Ashika,

Please refer to my input as below:

    • The End equipment is handheld camera. Like below picture show. And they use TPS6286A06 to power MCU core.

    • They haven't schematic currently. Just want to verify if they can use 0.1uH inductor.
    • Yes. They want to use 0.1uH inductor because of the space limit.

For my understanding, 0.1uH inductor would cause larger inductor current ripple and decrease the loop stability, right?

    Best Regards,

    Ryker

  • Hi Ryker,

Yes your understanding is correct. A 0.1uH inductor would cause a larger inductor current ripple, decrease loop stability and impact the efficiency.

Could you please let me know the inductor size (L x W x H) the customer prefers to use in their application?

    Best Regards,

    Ashika

  • Hi Ashika,

    Below is the inductor information:

  • Hi Ryker,

Unfortunately I could not obtain the complete D/S online for the P/N mentioned above :HTTL25201B-R10MSR . Is this the correct part number?

However, upon further research, there is a part number HTEL25201B MSR type from Cyntec

    www.cyntec.com/.../HTEL25201B-000 (A0).pdf

Is this the part number they intend to use? It has the same dimensions that the customer requires and the inductance value of 0.47uH. Kindly check this D/S.

    Best Regards,

    Ashika
