TPS54538: Output current issue

Part Number: TPS54538

Hi experts, I bought TPS54538 DC-DC converter and change the feedvack resistor to make it for 12V output application. We having issue when we put the load at output for 4A, it failed to boot up. This device should provide maximum output current 5A as mentioned in datasheet. Is there any missing steps to change the output current? Thanks for your help.

Hi Tan

Please make sure that the inductor is also changed according to the output voltage you have set. Only changing the feedback resistors will not help.

Let us know if you are using an EVM form from TI or have your own circuit. In the latter, case you can share the schematics for us to review.

Hi Nikhil,

I'm using EVM from TI. I changed the inductor L1 value to 8.2uH, R5 to 30K ohm and R4 to 370K ohm. Please advise on the next steps, thank you.

Hello Tan,

Can you let me know till what current its working?

can you check if its working for lower currents say 1A?
This is to make sure that its not turning off due to any thermal shutdown.

Also please let me know the status of PG pin.

I was using the wrong value of inductor, L1. Now the issue is solved. Thank you.
