Hello,
We use the PSE controller TPS23861 in automatic mode for two PoE ports. The application is a recorder for a tram accident camera. However, we encounter a frequent fault where this integrated circuit is destroyed after some time of operation (several months or years). In all cases, only the TPS23861PW was destroyed; the other components (external MOSFET, TVS, fuse, etc.) were fine.
The fault has two manifestations:
TPS23861 stops generating load detection pulses completely
or
TPS23861 performs load detection but measures the 25k? resistance in the PD incorrectly – if I connect some 100k? in parallel, and the controller completes the detection and switches on the external MOSFET (I use a TI module TPS23861EVM for testing).
Can you advise me where the problem might be?
Notes:
Electrical transients and discharges can be quite significant in the environment in which our application is operated.
