BQ79731-Q1: Requesting Datasheets

Part Number: BQ79731-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76972

I placed a request to access BQ7973X-Q1-DESIGN on 03-20-26.  I was denied.  Why?
I followed the link to TI customer support center to contest it, but that got me nowhere.
I tried to call customer support +1-855-226-3113 -- 24 hours a day, M-F -- IT WAS BUSY !!!
Today I requested data for  BQ7971XB-Q1-DESIGN.  That is also now pending.

I work for a company that is mainly an engineering design house.
Over the past year+ we did battery designs based on the TI BQ76972, plus other TI chips.  We ended up building the batteries here in house and have recently been transitioning the manufacturing on to our end customer.

We are in the process of designing 800 V batteries for a variety of other customers.  I am tasked with identifying a BMS chip set that we would use for all of these new designs.  I am looking at TI, ADI, Infineon, NXP and STMicro.  Several of these projects are military related and we therefore cannot use Chinese parts.

Support from TI has become laughable.  Arrow will no longer provide any support on TI products.  There are no longer any FAEs that I am aware of.  Downloading datasheets has become very restrictive or impossible.  E2E forum support is a joke.  I have never found an answer to my questions or problems there.

I'm making this last request to get some support, AT LEAST SOME DATASHEETs from TI.  If I can't get some minimal amount of help then I will regrettably cross TI off my list and concentrate on your competitors.

  • Hey Greg,

I'm sorry to hear about how challenging it's been to get ahold of the 7xx design resources. Due to a company policy, in order to access 7xx secure resources, you need to first have an active NDA. I understand that it must be very frustrating especially considering it is not always very trivial finding who to contact to find out more information about the part or why your request was denied. I have connected you with the sales team I believe is in charge of the region Treetown Tech is based in through email. They should be able to help you get set up with an NDA and figure out what next steps are needed or who else to contact. Thank you for your patience and still considering our part in spite of the challenges you've had with getting the help you need from us through E2E and through the support line.

Hope you're having an excellent day,

    Arnold Venter

  • Arnold,

    Thanks for your response.

    * Are you a TI employee?

    * You say you have connected me with sales team for my region?  Will I be getting an email or phone call?

    * I thought we had an active NDA with TI.  I checked and it turns out that we do NOT.  I will work to get one in place.  Can you point me to where I can find and NDA application ?  I went to TI.COM and searched on NDA and that did NOT get me where I wanted.

    * If lack of NDA is why my data request was denied, it certainly would have been NICE if that were the response.  Something like "Your document request is denied due to lack of an NDA between your company and Texas Instruments".  Does that seem radical?

    * When I wrote the above, I THOUGHT I was sending a message to TI customer support.  I did NOT expect it to be posted to a public forum.  Had I known that I would have NOT listed my company name and cell phone number.  Do you know how I can have this taken down?  Or can I edit it?

    Best,

    Greg

  • Arnold,

After posting the above, I now see your other email with TI email addresses included.  THANK YOU very much for that.

  • Hey Greg,

Yes, I am an apps engineer on the Battery Monitor Products team at TI :)

I have removed your phone number from the original question. Would you like me to also remove your company name? On my screen, there is a "more" option next to the reply and like button below your question. Under the more button, there is an option to edit on my end but it may just be because I'm an employee.

I understand that it would be frustrating getting rejected without any feedback on why. I believe that the people I have looped into our conversation through email will be able to help you secure an NDA and help you through the rest of the process. I'll check to see how our team currently communicates why access is denied and will let them know about the difficulty you experienced.

Feel free to post another question or contact any of the people on the email if you have any more questions about acquiring our resources and post any technical questions you have later here as well.

Hope you're having a good one,

    Arnold Venter

  • Thanks Annold.  Yes the MORE button worked and I did some more editting (removed company name).

  • Glad to be able to help.
If this resolved all your questions, please click that the problem is resolved :)

  • I sent an email to the contacts you suggested.
    Have not heard back yet.
Would really like to get the NDA moving on our end if I can get the appropriate document from TI.

  • I understand. It might be helpful to remind them through email if you don't get a response from them soon / in the next day or two. I believe one of them is ooo and the other I think has a lot on his / is at some event. I'll check in again in a day or two if things haven't started rolling along.
