LMZ10501 Current Sharing Questions

Hello All,

I am looking for a few things for the LMZ10501 for a customer. He wants to know if we have an application note or example for this device being used in parallel, if it can be used in parallel can the devices share the same feedback network to help save board space?

I did not find any application notes or examples that showed this, If anyone has any comments or suggestions on these questions it would be appreciated.

Hello Patrick,

Unfortunately, the LMZ10501 is not designed to be used in parallel configuration and won't share the current well.

Denislav,

We are thinking about using 2 LMZ10501 side by side (one for 3.3V and one for 1.8V), both being powered from a single 5.V wall unit accross a toggle switch. Do you have any appnotes or see any problems with this configuration?

Hello Peter,

I don't see an issue with this configuration. You can run two (or more) LMZ10501 from the same input. Please monitor the input voltage as you toggle the switch and be sure that the input voltage does not overshoot above the max operating (5.5V) limit after you flip the switch. If you see overshoot, you may need to put additional input cap with higher ESR for damping on the 5V.
