TPS63820: BB_WINDOW and HYS_CURRENT

    Here is a picture which shows clearly what is the "BB(buck-boost)_window", hope it works.

    HYS_CURRENT = peak inductor current - valley inductor current.

    Thank you for the answers. Regarding HYS_CURRENT, peak inductor current and valley inductor current depend on the inductance, output current etc. I think it isn't defined by the register. How does HYS_CURRENT work in the device?

    Regarding register configuratlon of TPS638201, Is it possible to set the register before enabling the device? The device is powered by input voltage.

  • Hi Yamamoto-san,

    Although the HYS_CURRENT indeed varies as the Vin, Vout and Iout changes. The base value, or the major percent of the HYS_CURRENT is decided by the register.

    Let's use an example of boost steady-state to see how the HYS_CURRENT works. The inductor current(IL) valley is decided by the Iea (proportional to the EA output). Once the IL valley touches the Iea, the HS-FET is off and LS-FET is on, the IL increases. Once the increased IL equals the HYS_CURRENT, then HS-FET is on and LS-FET is off, IL decreases.

    Regarding the TPS638201, the default internal EN bit is 0. So the register can be configured before enabling the device. If you see that the device is enabled as soon as Vin > UVLO and EN pin is high, please check whether it is the TPS63820, not TPS638201.
