Hi team,
My customer is currently using the LM3404 as an LED driver for bathroom vanity lighting. However, they are considering switching to a linear solution in order to improve noise performance, and their first candidate is the R1580 from Nisshinbo.
The required specifications they have provided are as follows:
- Linear topology (for noise reduction)
- Dimming control using a PWM frequency higher than 20 kHz (to avoid audible noise by staying outside the audible range)
- Assuming 8 to 9 LEDs connected in series
- Preferably with the capability to adjust color temperature (switching between cool white and warm white)
However, TI does not offer a linear device that can operate with PWM frequencies exceeding 20 kHz. Therefore, the customer mentioned that they would be willing to consider a switching solution if it offers improved noise performance compared to the current LM3404.
As switching devices, we are proposing the TPS92200D2 and TPS922050D2. However, the datasheets do not include noise performance indicators such as SNR, making direct comparison difficult.
Given this situation, would it be possible for your team to perform a simple noise performance comparison test using EVMs and provide the measurement data?
