BQ20Z95 temperature bug

Hi,

We use the bq20z95 a few years on different configurations and PCB.

Last month we encountered an issue with floating temperature measurements. I monitor the temp values via bqEasy software.

I'll try to explain in details:

First I'm using external temp sensors.

When steady state (no chg/dsg current) the real value of temp is measured. Everything is ok.

But when starting discharge 10A at 25°C the temp value jumps to approx. 35°C, when 20A it jumps to approx 45°C.

When charging at same conditions (10A) the delta is negative, the temp jumps to 15°C.

At low currents there is also such phenomenon with relatively decreased values.

If internal temp sensor is used the temp jump is even extremely higher. At 25°C , discharge at 20A the temp jumped to 126°C

Do you have any idea?

Thanks,

Shlomi

  •  Is this problem happening with multiple units? Is the device itself getting warm?  Have you been able to reproduce it with a TI EVM? My first guess would be that the device is damaged since you say the internal temp sensor is malfunctioning as well.
