Need Help with LED Driver Selection

Hi Everyone,

I need to power 4 IR LEDs that operate at a forward voltage of 1.5V and current of 100mA. Which LED driver should I purchase to provide the desired power to each LED?

One thing that I would like to have in a driver is easy product integration. I'm trying to build an IR camera and want to integrate these LEDs around the lens system, so I'll be soldering the LED wires to the chip by hand and securing them to back of the camera holding. I would also love to find a product that is already designed to operate at my desired current instead of manually altering the current with a resistor, if possible.

Currently, the camera board is being powered by a 5V AC/DC adapter, but I may try to use a rechargeable 3.7V Lithium Ion battery instead to charge the diodes, if possible...

Hello Michael,

You could use the LM3410 for your design. It is available in an LLP package and is a very small boost solution. The min input it can handle is about 2.7V. You could create a design for this part using Webench. I hope this information is helpful.

Thanks for the suggestion, Akshay! But is there something else out there that is less expensive? I looked up the driver you suggested and it was listed at $40/piece...

Michael,

You may have accidentally looked at the full evaluation board which lists for close to $40. The LM3410 ICs have a web price of between $1.25-$1.38.
