RE: bq24032A battery charger chip. Getting battery power to go out the OUT pin.

With no USB or AC power inputs connected, when I connect a battery the chip does not always route power from the battery, through the chip, and out the OUT pin to the system load. If I disconnect and then reconnect the battery within 5 seconds it always sends power to the system, but if I wait longer than 5 seconds to reconnect the battery, it fails to send power to the system load.

I'm wondering if anyone else has run in to this feature, and has any suggestions.

How is the Chip Enable pin (CE) and TS looking? Can you please probe them and see if they are at proper levels? Do you any indication on the STAT pins?

Add a 0.01uF capacitor to the DPPM pin to ground.

Read in the data sheet about Battery Short Circuit Protection.

Charles... Thanks for the reply. A .01uF on DPPM does fix the problem was. I had studied the data sheet, but guess I didn't pay enough attention to that "short circuit" section. Boy I hate getting caught in a RTFDSS situation. Thanks again for the fix.

Tahar... The indications that I was getting when the chip failed to initialize on power-up were:

Both STAT lines and TS near 0 volts.

CE and OUT near 1 volt.

I do have plots now with 1 mS resolution, if you still want them, but I'm not sure how to get a .jpg to you through this forum.
