ev2300 windows 7 (32bit) installation problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ20Z80

i have installed USB Drivers for Windows XP and Windows 7 (Rev. A) (28 Apr 2011) in windows7 32bit as administrator (before connecting ev2300 box).

then i connected the ev2300 box: device installation unsuccessful.

i tried manually updating the driver: path to c:\windows\TI, but still not recognized (could not be found)

i also have the same problem in windows xp 32bit (sp3)

  • Try installing the 64-bit drivers for EV2300.  They will also work for 32-bit systems and are newer.  Let us know if that works better.

  • Problem:

Unable to communicate with TI EV2300.

I have exchanged the EV2300 box with other engineers in the company. The EV2300 box is OK.

I have installed the 32 and lately the 64 bit driver.

My Op Sys: Windows 7 - 32 bit

I have installed the following softwares:

    EV2300 Software - sluc017; EV2300 Driver - slec003a; EV2300 software bq20z80 - sluc107; EV2300a Device Driver Installer Multilanguage 0.6 - 64 bit

When I start the bq Evaluation Software, I get these error messages:

1.- "The detected device is not compatible with this application! Proceed at your own risk"

2.- A "Communication Error" message appears at the bottom left side of the "Texas Instrument bq Gas Gauge Evaluation Software - bq20z80..."

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • hi Jose,

I suggest re-installing the EV2300 drivers for 64 Bit windows from this link http://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/battery_management/m/videos__files/458983.aspx

install as an administrator, then restart your system .Let's see if this works for you.

    regards

  • Hi Onyx,

Thank you very much for your suggestion.

I installed the 64 bit driver as instructed and restarted the PC. It did not work.

    Any other idea?

  • Connect your cells to the evm (or use a cell simulator- 1 k resistors and a power supply(see  document-SLUA 421A:quick-start guide for bq20zxx family gas gauges for steps on how to do this) )  and momentarily short pack+ and 4p terminal on the EVM. This will wake the device from shut-down mode. I believe this is why you are seeing the communication error.

  • Hi Onyx,

I'm sorry I was not clear about this, but I have done that long time ago.

    Thanks

  • Jose,

I tested a 20z80 board here on a windows 7 comp.  After momentarily shorting the pack + and 4P terminal ,communication was ok. You will have to troubleshoot the EVM to make sure your IC is not damaged. Look up the IC pins and  their respective electrical characteristics on the data sheet to know what values to expect when troubleshooting. If the IC is damaged, then you will need to replace it .

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx,

Finally the EV2300 is working. This is what I have done:

1.- Updated the driver as per your recommendation.

     2.- Modified EV2300 changing resistor R34 from 100K to 50K

    Explanation:

After changing the driver, the EV2300 was not recognized consistently by Windows when the USB cable was plugged into the PC. When the unit failed to be recognized by Windows the Red LED (D20) was permanently turned ON. If the USB cable was unplugged and quickly plugged back, the unit will work properly.

Reducing the time to enable the 3.3V LDO, decreasing R34 solved the problem.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hi !! I modified EV2300 changing resistor R34 from 100K to 50K .  the EV2300 is still not recognized consistently by Windows .
