The application report SWCA025 talks about this. Here is an excerpt from that document:
To reduce power consumption in BACKUP state, the software can configure the 32-kHz clock to be in low-power mode by setting the CFG_BOOT CK32K_LOWPWR_EN bit to 1 when the TPS65950 is in ACTIVE state.
I am wondering what the down side to this setting is. When I read this, I thought to myself why wouldn't this be a default? If we are running on a small backup battery, it seems like we would want to be in low power mode. Then I realized that there must be some negative quality about the low power state driving us to the the default state. The document does not talk about the ramifications of this setting. How are we supposed to decide if we want to set this state without knowing the tradeoffs?
Thanks...
